Long Absence...

I've not been feeling the creative writing mood as of late, though tonight, I've finally got something going. Have I been without cigars or scotch? Not at all!

However, I've been without something to write about, and unlike many that blog, I don't like intimate posts...I'm an old fashioned kind of guy, I cry in the closet, and then I splash water on my face and move on, it works well enough to get me through, what I go through in private isn't really for the world to know. My wife, on the other hand, finds solace in bloging about her feelings, and I'm happy she has a place to air it out. For me...eh...I'd much rather have a glass of whiskey and relax with a book, or some other creative writing exercise, something for my hands to do while my mind goes elsewhere.

So...absences will occur, I don't write unless I've got something to write abaout (As stated above). But I'll get in the swing of things soon enough.

Let's talk life...finer things aside. Busier'n forty cats doesn't cover what I've been at lately, and frankly, I can't stand it, and yet, I can't live without the sense of purpose I get from that balls-to-the-wall kind of momentum built up from being on the go from the moment I walk through the door until the minunte I cross the threshold at my home. I love my job. Simply put.

New car? Kia Soul...can't complain so far, though with the hills on this island, my first fear is that that damn front-end transmission is gonna crap out in second gear. But otherwise, it's a comfrtable ride, and a compact little cross-over. I was surprised at how nice it was. With a 10-year extended warranty, I'm worry free for a while too, which is a HUGE relief after the pontiac that I was under the hood on every few months.

Let's see what else? Leave at home...yeah, I felw home for the first time in three years in July, best idea ever! Cigars and Margaritas with my parents. Well, mom doesn't smoke, but Dad and I got to hit a cigar bar and watch the yankees hand the Rays ass to them while he smoked his old Favorite the Montecristo No.1 and I myself enjoyed my absolute the La Gloria Cubana Series R No.7 Maduro. My dad has finer taste, what can I say? Some things you just learn with age. It was a fun night, a night to remember, just sitting and talking baseball and everything with my father, having a drink and a fine cigar with no worry. Not often I get to do things like that.

After getting home and settling in, my wife, the mind-reader she is, also did something that I love about her. We had our special dessert of Hazelnut coffee and maduro cigars following biscotti. My wife of course smokes the ROcky Patel Vintage 1990 Robusto, her favorite, and I had (Yet again, a little farther down on the refinement scale) a Victor Sinclair Double Maduro Torpedo...not as smooth as my wifes, but still a fun smoke. We had a good time, and watched Mad men on Netflix...perfect combo...again, it was an afternoon to remember, sitting with the love of my life enjoying my favorite pasttime.

That's about it on the catching up. Things to come...eh, we'll see...gotta get work out of the way first...then we can see about all of this fun stuff...gotta lose my gut too, so maybe I'll show a picture of my wannabe six pack if I get it there.

Have fun all...I'll think of something else to say soon.

Cgiar Review: La Gloria Cubana Serie R No.7

Length: 7"
Ring: 58
Wrapper: Ecuadorian Sumatra Wrapper
Flavor: Full-bodied

This is the cigar that changed everything for me. This was my first real cigar, the first cigar I ever enjoyed. I had it in Gurnee, Illinois, standing outside in my 'Johnny Cash' uniform, freezing my butt off in the 10 degree afternoon. A young slick-sleeve, I had a few dollars to burn every payday, so every weekend I went down to the Cigar Shop in Gurnee and bought Pipe Tobacco and a cigar or three...I had a little travel humidor that held about six robustos...it was all I needed to get started...and hooked!

The first puff told me this was a real cigar...when you think if smoking a cigar, a big, long, luxurious piece of art, this what you are thinking of. The flavor is very full, woody, very natural and strong, like a good Colombian Coffee in fact. I like this cigar because, even though it is so powerful, it's still just as smooth as any other, and it truly is the poster-child of the cigar-world, the whole Serie R line is amazing, and I would recommend it to anyone.
If you are a first-timer, this would be a good cigar to have something cold to drink with, like iced tea...if you have a tougher palate, coffee, cognac, or Scotch Whiskey is good as well. There are some beers that will also go well with it, but it's hit or miss. It does burn unevenly, so you'll want to rotate it from time to time to keep the heat even, and, like any large gauge cigar, you'll want to get the edges well-lit, else it will canoe quickly. It's an amazing smoke that I absolutely love, like all things made by Ernesto Perez Carillo, and I strongly recommend trying it. It's about $12  a stick these days, up from the $7-9 I used to pay, but still worth every cent. Enjoy!

Cigar Review: Rocky Patel Vintage 1990

Very simply, if you could smoke dark chocolate, this would be what it tastes like, a slightly bitter after taste, but that's easy to over look when you consider the quality, and you want to know what else? It goes great with coffee.

This is such a good smoke, even burn, warm taste, refined oily wrapper, and easy on the palate...so much so, in fact, that this decadent cigar is the favorite of none other than my wife Holly, pictured in the post prior to this. Though she's smoking a Serie 'R' No.3 in that picture, her favorite and only cigar of choice has remained since our wedding day to be this cigar. I'd recommend to anyone with fine tastes and plenty of time to smoke it right.

My turn...

*cracks knuckles*

So, it looks like my wife (the computer literate of the two of us) got me off to a good start. Where to begin? Well, I can think a good way to start would be with a tribute to my beautiful wife of whom I've followed and supported since day one.

As it says above, the Finer things in life, nothing finer than her, whilst she pisses me off now and again, that's just normal life, I still love the hell out of her, and I"ll show you why here in a few of my favorite pictures below...

Who says a woman with a cigar isn't sexy?

When we first met out in Norfolk.

This is probably my second favorite picture next to the one from Norfolk.

Wearing my glasses...

This is one of her newest pictures...gorgeous ain't she?

Without her I'd have lost what little bit of my mind I have left...and I wouldn't have the life that I enjoy to day...I love you Holly.

Test Post, First Post! (By the Wife)

I proudly introduce my husband Luke into the blogging world, out here all on his own brave 10 fingers, ready to be make it big!

I can't promise his language will be clean all the time.... but neither is mine.  He'll probably write a lot about cigars and fine scotches and whatnot.

He may vent from time to time.

We don't always share similar views, so it could get interesting.
